HQ stereo/video playback and headphones recommended! (add &fmt=18 to the end of the video URL so it reads: watch?v=Ds0xYDfvV0c&fmt=18) or use this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... sure and use HQ mode to watch this one or you won't see as many stars! This video shows some interesting views of our night sky as it moves overhead (actually, IT doesn't move much - WE do, but I bet you already KNEW that). Objects featured include stars, clouds, aircraft navigation lights (the lightning-like streaks)and contrails, plus some shots of the moon, via telescope and zoom lens. Time lapse / timed exposure sequences were shot in Santa Clarita, CA. with a Canon S5-IS digital camera; realtime images recorded with a JVC digital camcorder and various optical devices. The music is an excerpt from Technician's "Bio" (Mutant Version), Soundtrack available on CD at JCMDI.COMEnjoy the show! :D

Hi Bill, Nice t' meetcha! I like the Canon non-DSLR cameras for basic time lapse work. I use the S5-is and SX10-is myself, but both are no longer made. Most models have a continuous shooting mode so you just hold down the shutter button to collect your frames. Also, the firmware hack "CHDK" is available for many Canon models, with scripts for intervalometer functions. I typically shoot at one frame every 1-2 seconds, and playback at 30fps for smooth video. Cheers and keep up the good work! :-)

Nice video/time lapse and choice of music!I have just started to dabble in time lapse and posting on You Tube (feel free to check them out).I did my time lapse with a Canon still camera (SD790is) which has 1fps and 2 fps.The samsung F40 has nice features but not too good a review to me. The JVC with the 2 SD slots is tempting and within my budget. What camera do you use? and what would you recomend?Digital regards,BiLL (Brooklyn, NY)

I bet your view is much better than mine - I'm right in the middle of town, but still there are some nights with a clear sky when I manage to get some decent shots. :-) Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanks so much for the great comment! You might be surprised to find that nearly all my night (and day) sky footage is shot right in town, from my back yard. There is a lot of light pollution most of the time but when the Santa Anas blow and (and ither times) when the air is really clear, the city lights don't haze-out the sky so much, and are great times for filming. You can, however, still see a more stars if you get out of town a ways. :-)
